Puerto Vallarta, as with many areas on Banderas Bay, has a culture of giving back that is noteworthy. This is only a fraction of the active organizations that work to ensure that Puerto Vallarta continues to be a great place to work and live in harmony with nature.

Cruz Roja (Red Cross) - The Red Cross is the only facility that is authorized to treat injured people on the street and transport them to facilities where they can receive care/shelter. The Red Cross regularly solicits donations to of money and medical supplies to support its operations. Call 222-1533

R.I.S.E. (The Reguion Infantil Santa Esperanza - Children's Shelter of Hope) is a shelter for infants and children under the age of 14 who have been referred from the local social welfare agency (Desarrollo Integral de la Familia) to receive the physical, psychological, and educational support not being given by their families. Often these children are being protected from abusive and neglectful situations.

Becas Vallarta, A.C. is a non-profit foundation that raises funds for and administers scholarships to students with an average of 8.5 or better in Puerto Vallarta who have limited means to support the enhancement of their education. Over 300 high school and university students have been educationally enriched through this organization.

Pro Biblioteca de Vallarta - This center is the only public space in Puerto Vallarta to house a library, a cultural center and an exhibition space. Attracting 300 people at day with its diverse array of presentations, The Los Mangos public library makes culture accessible to the people of Puerto Vallarta.

Ecológico de Puerto Vallarta - is an organization that lobbies for the protection of the environment; especially endangered species of plants and animals, most notably, marine turtles. It develops targeted educational and community-action programs that will create a more sustainable future for Puerto Vallarta.

Amigos de los Animales ( Friends of the Animals). - - Is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping ALL animals in Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding communities. The goal is to educate the people in the importance of proper treatment of animals whether they are pets, strays or wild. This education includes neutering and spaying, proper feeding, veterinary care, and helping abandoned strays find good homes with locals and foreigners. Children of the Dump - Orginally founded in 1998 as Feed the Children Vallarta , the mission of Children of the dump is to educate the poor children of Puerto Vallarta in the skills necessary to rise above poverty. Through private donations, the program feeds more than 2300 children daily, operates nine day care centers and an after-school program for grades 3 through 6; teaching them English, math and computers. Families of the Dump - FAD provides spiritual, physical and emotional support to the families at the Puerto Vallarta city dump and surrounding villages, including food, water; clothing; medical and dental services and home repairs. International Friendship Club (IFC) - Funds many projects such as the Cleft Palate Program, classroom and school restroom construction, emergency assistance to those with limited resources. Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA A.C. - Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA is an essential partner in the fight against HIV in the Banderas Bay region. Vallarta Botanical Gardens - The Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens is an oasis of lush tropical plants and flowers located in the Sierra Madre Mountains. With over 3,000 species of plants, and having a unique tropical dry forest ecosystem at 1,300 feet above sea level, it is a valuable educational research centre. Local fundraising efforts and volunteers keep these gardens open year round.
